Panama Highlands Real Estate

Panama highlands Boquete Real Estate

Panama Real Estate Boquete

Many people looking for Panamanian real estate are not at all interested in living in Panama City. Many are, in fact, more attracted to life in the countryside, where the cool breezes and mountain valleys create an eternal spring-like climate. Boquete, in Chiriqui province, is the most famous of such locales, and there is much land and many developed properties for sale there.

Boquete, is a town on the Caldera River, in the green mountain highlands in western-most province Chiriqui, about 602km from the border with Costa Rica. Due to its location in the highlands of the province of Chiriqui, it has a perfect spring-like climate at an elevation of a little over 3000 ft., with clean air, clear water, and a welcoming community. On the lush green hillsides gourmet coffee is grown and at times the smell of roasting coffee sends wonderful aromas through the town. If you love Colorado, Oregon or British Columbia, you will love Boquete.

Boquete boasts a very lively music and arts scene. The annual Boquete Jazz Festival was founded in 2007, and it’s the second largest jazz festival in the country after the Panama City Jazz Festival. The festival was recently renamed the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival.

Some of its landmarks include nearby Volcán Barú, a dormant volcano and, at 3,475 meters, the tallest point of land in Panama. Hikers enjoy a relatively easy hike up and over the volcano, along the Sendero de los Quetzales, which runs from Boquete up to Cerro Punta and Volcan, on the other side of the volcano. The Caldera River runs through the town. It is a river that has shaped much of its form.

There is a large community of expats in Boquete; according to La Contraloria General de la Nacion, the government institution in charge of the census, there are over 3,000 foreigners permanently living in Boquete coming from over 30 different countries. Although Americans and Canadians make out the majority of ex pats, there is a quite large group of immigrants from Colombia and Venezuela and the third largest group of immigrants coming from European countries. This increase in immigrants has made possible the flourish of new industries and business, owned both by locals and foreigner. The most relevant industry is the hotel Industry; there are currently over 50 accommodations in Boquete, ranging from 5 stars resorts to backpackers motels Along with hotels, many new restaurants have opened in Boquete during the very active high season that starts on November 1 and runs until April 30th. Several other business oriented to serve the tourist have flourished in Boquete: golf, river rafting, trekking and hiking, canopy tours, biking and many other outdoor activities for visitors of all ages. Another main activity that has exponentially grown in Boquete is the real estate industry. Boquete, which is part of Panama highlands, has become a paradisiacal destination for a million dollar listings for those looking for top end luxury places and mountain living.

Unfortunately, Boquete’s many attributes have led to increasing popularity that has also spurned a rise in prices. People looking for slightly less expensive properties will be able to find them for sale in other comparable locations around Panama.

El Valle Real Estate

El Valle de Antón, generally called El Valle or Anton’s Valley in English, is part of the Panama highlands and is located in the province of Coclé, only two hours from Panama City, so consequently a popular weekend retreat for city residents, is the town of El Valle de Anton. It is approximately 2 hours from Panama City by good roads; look for the right turn off the Inter American Highway.

The town is located in the flat wide caldera of the 6 km wide El Valle volcano that is inactive; there is evidence that it erupted as recently as about 300,000 years ago. Because of its elevation (600 m), it is cooler than the Panamanian lowlands.

In El Valle you can find many natural attractions, including the Chorro El Macho waterfall, Las Mozas waterfall, the “square” trees behind Hotel Campestre, and a group of small thermal pools (which consist of three cement pools of mineralized water that varies in color depending on the specific minerals present at a given moment).

El Valle has one main road, called Avenida Central or Calle Central, which runs east–west across the town. In the town you can find a public market, which is open every day. It also has an historical geological museum, a small zoo called El Nispero (named after a type of tree), a small serpentarium and an orchid conservation center which displays over 100 native local orchid species called Aprovaca, Also, west of town, there’s several petroglyphs known as La Piedra Pintada.

With a pleasant cool weather, green forested surroundings, hillsides where you will find impressive waterfalls and petroglyphs, El Valle is a favorite among Panamanians and tourists alike. The Sunday Handicraft Market draws many visitors, prices are usually negotiable. Mostly Gnobe natives sell their handicrafts here but you may also encounter members of the Embera, Guna and Embera Wounaan. Look for soapstone carvings or a batea, a large wooden tray used for tossing rice or corn by Gnobe natives. The local hardwood used for these trays is very heavy when first cut but quite light when dried.

Some of the people who own properties in the heart of El Valle are wealthy people from Panama City who use the area as their vacation or weekend home. The prices of developed properties can range from USD 150,000.00 up to USD 1 million, with areas ranging from 100 square meters to 10,000 square meters. Some of these properties can include private houses, chalets and even properties used for accommodation purposes.

Some projects that are currently for sale in El Valle are Casa de Nubes, Las Medinas, El Pastoreo, Thermal Pools, among others. Lands for sale can be found in El Valle and surrounding areas, such in La Compania, El Macano, MIrador, Calle Coronado, La Reforma and Mata Ahogado, just to mention a few.
